Few covers from 2004 stop you cold quite like this one — a blood-soaked, outstretched arm and hand, clad in what appears to be a shredded costume, hanging limply against a stark blue-and-orange backdrop. Cory Walker's cover art delivers visceral impact with striking economy, letting the cascading red speak volumes about the violence suggested within. Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, and Bill Crabtree's series was already proving it wasn't afraid to go to dark places, and this haunting image makes that abundantly clear.
