This August 1986 issue of The Green Lantern Corps delivers one of the most visually striking covers of its era — a close-up of two hands meeting at the center of a burst of yellow-green light, with a blue-skinned, dark-gloved hand passing a glowing power ring to a white-gloved hand, the tension of that exchange practically radiating off the page. Cover pencils by Luke McDonnell and inks by Bruce Patterson give the composition a sharp, dramatic focus that makes the ring feel like the most important object in the universe. Written by Steve Englehart with art by Joe Staton and inks by Mark Farmer, this one — featuring "The Diabolical Doctor Ub'x!" — is a fine example of mid-'80s DC storytelling confidence at its best.
