About this Collection

This volume collects the early issues of IDW's 2014 G.I. Joe series, following the team as they face a new global threat dubbed the Threat Matrix. Key characters like Roadblock, Cover Girl, and Shipwreck are featured in a storyline that redefines the Joes' mission and internal dynamics.

"Chapter 1" of G.I. Joe (2014, IDW) kicks off with a gripping flashback to the first meeting between Monk and Duke, setting the stage for a tense, character-driven story. Written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Steve Kurth, with inks by Allen Martinez, colors by Joana Lafuente, and letters by Shawn Lee, the issue unfolds through a series of high-stakes missions and personal betrayals, including Tunnel Rat and Roadblock foiling a fake bomb, Quick Kick uncovering defective weapons, and the Commander confronting Destro over a past betrayal. The story’s emotional core emerges as Monk escapes, reconnects with his family, and faces a dangerous threat that forces Doc to make a desperate move—while Duke makes a quiet, personal decision that reshapes his future. The cover, by Jamal Igle, captures the tension with a striking, dynamic image.
