About this Collection

This volume kicks off IDW's 2013 G.I. Joe series, reuniting classic team members like Duke, Shipwreck, and Quick Kick as they face a new global threat. The story focuses on the Joes' covert operations and the personal dynamics within the unit, including the return of familiar faces like Doc and the introduction of new challenges for the team.

"Chapter 1" launches IDW’s G.I. Joe series with a sharp, grounded start: the Joes, now public figures after a press conference by General Colton, are deployed to Ohio to stop a Cobra incursion—only for their plane to go down. Written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Steve Kurth, with inks by Allen Martinez, colors by Joana Lafuente, and letters by Neil Uyetake, the issue cuts between the team’s chaotic arrival and the present-day fight for survival, where they’re scattered, outnumbered, and hunted through a town now aligned with Cobra. The cover by Steve Kurth and John Dickenson captures the intensity of the moment, setting the tone for a story where duty meets chaos.
