Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #9
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis November 1989 issue takes a wonderfully offbeat approach, presenting itself as a "bound-to-be-controversial" in-universe magazine exposé on Stephen Strange — the Sorcerer Supreme himself — complete with tabloid-style headlines questioning whether he's a mystic hero or the original mad doctor. Butch Guice's cover artwork depicts a commanding Dr. Strange in his full red-and-blue regalia, magical energies at the ready, looming over a blonde woman in the foreground while monstrous creatures lurk in the shadowy background — with an inset panel showing Janet Van Dyne alongside two other figures hinting at Marvel Universe intrigue. The whole package, with its "NOW Magazine" framing, interview with in-universe Strange biographer Morgana Blessing, and cheeky celebrity commentary, makes this one of the more inventive single issues of the era.
