With Chuck losing a cartooning gig, Betty and Nancy out of work at a failing costume shop, and Mr. Lodge’s haunted house shuttered for lack of costumes, the town’s Halloween plans hang in the balance—thanks to a twist that’s equal parts surprise and sibling rivalry. Written by George Gladir and brought to life with vibrant art by Stan Goldberg and Al Milgrom, the story features a cover by Bill Golliher and Jim Amash.
In "Cowgirl Blues," Archie and Betty trade their usual high school gear for full western regalia and head to a country and western dance club, where the twang of fiddles and the clatter of boots set the mood. Archie’s enthusiasm quickly outpaces his coordination, turning the line dance into a comical stumble through the rhythm.
In the storm-lashed woods, the Pussycats take refuge in the eerie Gothic mansion of Roderick Van Cleeve, a man whose quiet demeanor hides something far darker. When Melody uncovers a secret buried within the house’s walls, she realizes some truths are worth dying for—and someone will do just that to keep them hidden.
Josie is stunned to hear that Alan M. has developed a crush on a blonde waitress, and she’s determined to confirm the rumor—especially since it might mean Valerie’s in trouble. Her quest to find Valerie leads her instead to Melody, whose endless chatter makes getting a straight answer nearly impossible.
In "Clean Sweep," Archie’s impromptu dance move with Betty sends Mr. Weatherbee into a tizzy, sparking a chain reaction of chaos at Riverdale High. Jughead tries to impress Veronica with a similar move, only to drag Moose into detention for aiding Dilton’s failed attempt to join in.
In "Extra Credit," Veronica takes a risky shortcut to beat her father’s strict credit limit, signing up for a six-month zero-finance payment plan without reading the fine print. What starts as a smart move quickly spirals into a situation she never saw coming.
In "Run, Betty, Run!", Betty finds herself in a frantic race against time and her own nerves, dodging Veronica at every turn to avoid a showdown over a secret date with Archie. With each near-miss and escalating mishap, the pressure mounts as Betty tries to keep her plans hidden—until she wonders if she’s running from the wrong person.
When Halloween chaos strikes, Chuck’s dream of landing a cartooning gig for a horror comic goes up in smoke, Betty and Nancy lose their jobs at a struggling costume shop, and Mr. Lodge’s haunted house remains shuttered—no costumes, no designs, no luck. It’s a night of misfortune for the whole gang, but with a little creativity and a lot of spirit, maybe even the worst Halloween can spark something unexpected.
