Devil-Slayer
Eric Simon Payne was a disillusioned U.S. Marine who fell into the occult Cult of the Harvester of Eyes before breaking free and dedicating himself to battling supernatural evil as Devil-Slayer, armed with a shadow cloak capable of conjuring any weapon.
Few Bronze Age introductions carry a name as striking as Devil-Slayer's — bursting onto the scene in Marvel Spotlight #33 in 1977, courtesy of David Anthony Kraft, Rich Buckler, and Mike Nasser, this Marvel creation arrived with unmistakable attitude during one of comics' most adventurous decades. Over nearly half a century of publishing history, he's kept remarkable company, sharing pages with the likes of Stephen Strange, Captain America, and Bruce Banner across titles including The Defenders, Avengers: The Initiative, and Marvel Comics Presents. That kind of longevity and those kinds of co-stars speak to a character who has quietly endured while flashier names grabbed the headlines. If you're a collector with a taste for the darker, more atmospheric corners of the Marvel universe, Devil-Slayer is exactly the kind of discovery worth chasing down.
