Featuring issues from multiple Avengers titles of the era, it includes the initial buildup and early battles as the teams grapple with the political and moral complexities of an interstellar war.
In "It Came from Outer Space," the Avengers: Galactic Storm team up with the Starjammers for a high-stakes mission that spirals out of control when Lilandra tasks them with transporting a massive Nega-Portal to the Kree Empire. When Wonder Man and Vision discover the portal is actually a colossal Nega-Bomb, they must convince the Starjammers to abandon it—too late, as the ship vanishes through a star portal, leaving the two heroes stranded on the bomb itself. Written by Gerard Jones and illustrated by Jeff Johnson and J. B. Jones, with inks by Art Nichols and Jan Harpes, colors by Joe Rosas, and letters by Pat Brosseau, the issue's dynamic art and tense pacing are matched by Steve Epting and Tom Palmer’s striking cover.
In "It Came from Outer Space," Rick’s nightmare of the Kree’s demise sends him reaching out to Captain America, reuniting the two in a moment of urgent tension. Before they can regroup, they’re ambushed by Warstar, and Rick is taken aboard a mysterious spaceship. There, the Supreme Intelligence reshapes the galaxy by forging a new godlike entity—Supremor.
In "Turn of the Sentry," the West Coast Avengers spring into action when they rescue Captain America and set out to free Rick Jones, captured by the Shi'ar. With Oracle using Rick to locate the Psyche-Magnetron, the team faces a towering Kree Sentry guarding the device—leading to a fierce battle as the Shi'ar make their escape with a piece of the relic. As Captain America calls on Quasar, the hunt for the Magnetron takes a dramatic leap into the stars.
In "The Tomb of Mar-Vell," Quasar is drawn to the site of Captain Mar-Vell’s resting place after detecting strange solar flares, only to find it under siege by grave robbers. As Wendell tries to intervene, the Imperial Guard arrives, leading to a fierce clash that ends with Captain Marvel’s Nega Bands stolen—leaving the fate of the relics and the tomb’s secrets still unresolved.
In "Shared Space," Wonder Man faces off against Captain Atlas, whose Nega Bands let him teleport unpredictably—each clash of the bands sending him to a new location, including one where Rick Jones is trapped. With the Kree and Shi'ar on the brink of war and Earth caught in the crossfire, Captain America calls an emergency Avengers summit. Simon, putting aside his stage role, steps into the fray to help prevent galactic disaster.
In "Storm Gatherings," the space-faring Avengers race to save the crew of the Starcore after a solar flare destroys the station, only to uncover a Shi'ar fleet manipulating a nearby wormhole that's destabilizing the sun. As the Shi'ar attack, the Avengers fight back, then split into three teams—Cap leading one to negotiate with the Kree, another to confront the Shi'ar, and a third to stay on Earth. Hawkeye, transformed into Goliath, joins Cap’s mission, bringing unmatched strength to the front lines.
In "Decisions in a Vacuum," the Avengers—led by Iron Man in his space armor—venture into a Kree space station to broker peace between the Kree and the Shi'ar, only to be ambushed by Shi'ar commandos. Amid the chaos, Iron Man faces off against Shatterax, a Kree soldier acting under the orders of the Supreme Intelligence, and must make a choice that could determine the fate of the entire team.
In "The War and the Warrior!" from Avengers: Galactic Storm #1, Thor and his companions find themselves caught in the crossfire of a Kree assault while traversing Shi'ar space. Mistaking the Avengers for aggressors, the Gladiator launches a brutal attack, forcing Thor into a desperate battle that tests both his strength and his judgment.
In "Twenty Million Light Years from Earth," Captain America and the Avengers find themselves imprisoned on the Kree homeworld, forced to rely on Sersi’s cunning to disguise them as Accusers and slip past their captors. With Iron Man furious over his armor’s tampering, he takes flight toward the central government building alongside Goliath, while the rest of the team struggles to reach the same destination—only to be ambushed by the relentless Korath.
In "They Also Serve...", the Imperial Guard descend on Earth with a mission to reclaim Warstar, Atlas, and Minerva, clashing with the Avengers left behind. After a tactical ambush, they seize Captain Atlas and vanish into space, leaving the remaining Avengers—especially Minerva—reeling and searching for answers. Quasar intervenes, but the Guard escape with their prize, setting the stage for a conflict that stretches beyond Earth.
In "Spatial Deliveries," Quasar and Her hold the line at the stargate near Earth's sun against the onslaught of Neutron and Starbolt. When the battle ends, Quasar races to save Captain Atlas from the Shi'ar, only for Voyager to intervene—teleporting the hero to a distant, unknown corner of the cosmos.
In "Death Adrift," Wonder Man and Vision find themselves stranded aboard a massive Nega-Bomb after the Starjammers, misled by Lilandra’s request, set off toward the Kree Empire. With the Starjammers lost in a star portal and the bomb hurtling through space, the two heroes must survive the wreckage of their own mission—adrift, isolated, and facing an unknown fate.
In "Assassination," the Avengers press on toward the Kree government building when they're ambushed by the Starforce under the Supreme Intelligence’s command. Amid the chaos, the dual rulers of the Kree Empire are brutally slain by Deathbird, setting off a chain of events that sees the Supreme Intelligence reassert control and redirect the Starforce toward a deadly mission: assassinating Lilandra in the Shi'ar Empire.
