“Terror Stalks the Everglades!”

The Lord of the Hidden Jungle takes the fight to the Florida wetlands in this June 1972 issue of Astonishing Tales, where Ka-Zar is shown grappling bare-handed with a massive crocodile amid churning water, while his saber-toothed companion Zabu claws at the beast and additional crocs swarm nearby — with two human figures visible in the background, equally imperiled. Penciled by John Buscema and inked by Joe Sinnott, the cover crackles with raw, swamp-drenched energy that makes "Terror Stalks the Everglades!" feel like exactly the kind of wild, mud-and-muscle adventure that made Ka-Zar such a compelling corner of the early '70s Marvel universe.
