“Chaos Is--The Chameleon!”

"Chaos Is--The Chameleon!" marks a pivotal moment in Spider-Man’s saga, as the web-slinger finally clears his name with the police after a long shadow of suspicion. With the Chameleon orchestrating a public smear campaign that turns the crowd against him, Spider-Man must prove his innocence in the most volatile setting of all—Central Park—where Flash Thompson rallies the people in his defense. But even as the city begins to accept him, a new threat looms in the shadows, setting the stage for something far more personal and dangerous. Written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Keith Pollard, with inks by Mike Esposito, colors by M. Severin, and letters by J. Novak, the issue’s iconic cover by John Romita Sr. captures the tension of the moment, all in a 2024 release that stands as a standout in the Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection.

D.A. Towers tells Spider-Man that all charges against him have been dropped and that he is no longer wanted by the police. But during a press conference, the Chameleon tries to discredit Spider-Man – to the general public, Spider-Man seems to be hitting an elderly woman. The plan is foiled, however, and Flash Thompson convinces the crowd in Central Park to give Spider-Man a proper recognition and celebration. But everyone isn't too happy about this: J. Jonah Jameson is furious... And a mysterious character in a lab in Westchester swears that he will kill Spider-Man.
