Edward Lansky
Edward Lansky was the Vice Chancellor of Empire State University who secretly became the supervillain Lightmaster, using experimental light-based technology to grant himself the power to project and manipulate hard-light constructs while concealing his corrupt activities from Spider-Man and ESU staff.
Edward Lansky made his Marvel debut in the Bronze Age pages of Super Spider-Man #233 in 1977, brought to life by the formidable creative trio of Jim Shooter, Gerry Conway, and Sal Buscema. Over nearly five decades he's kept remarkable company — sharing adventures with Spider-Man, Peter Parker, Betty Brant, and even Wolverine — while turning up across a surprisingly eclectic range of titles including Cable / Deadpool, Dark Reign: Mister Negative, and She-Hulk. With 26 appearances spanning all the way to 2024, Lansky is one of those quietly persistent figures in the Marvel tapestry, the kind of character that rewards the dedicated reader who digs beneath the headline names and discovers just how richly populated the Bronze Age really was.
