☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis Epic Collection volume covers a pivotal era for Spider-Man, collecting Amazing Spider-Man #161-180 and Annual #11-12, along with material from Nova #12 and Marvel Treasury #18. It features Peter Parker's college years, the debut of the original Hydro-Man, the return of Kraven the Hunter, and the beginning of the Jackal's sinister schemes that would lead to the infamous Clone Saga. The title reflects the public's growing distrust of Spider-Man, a theme that runs through these issues as J. Jonah Jameson's anti-Spider-Man campaign reaches new heights.
"Mesmero's Revenge!" kicks off with a high-stakes showdown as the Wizard, freed by a mysterious woman named Llyra, unleashes a giant gold robot spider to challenge Spider-Man atop the World Trade Center. Written by Denny O'Neil and illustrated by John Romita Jr. with inks by Jim Mooney, the story delivers tense action and personal stakes as Spider-Man battles the mechanical menace, only to face a new threat when the Wizard targets Peter Parker’s apartment. The cover by John Romita Jr. and Al Milgrom captures the moment’s intensity, making this a standout entry in the Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection #12.

A mysterious figure (later to be revealed as Llyra) breaks the Wizard out of Ryker's Island prison so they can get revenge on both Spider-Man and the Sub-Mariner respectively. The Wizard sends a giant gold robot spider to climb up the World Trade Center to goad Spider-Man into a fight so he can steal his spider-sense energy. Spider-Man knocks the robot off the side of the building destroying it, but the Wizard is able to get the energy signature. He traces the energy to Peter Parker's apartment and sets it on fire. Spider-Man is able to rescue the neighbours but gets trapped saving a wino.
