Spider-Slayer
The Spider-Slayer Mark I was a remote-controlled robot built by scientist Spencer Smythe, commissioned by J. Jonah Jameson to hunt down and capture Spider-Man. Equipped with cameras and web-proof design, it debuted as the first in a long line of spider-hunting machines.
Born in the Silver Age crucible of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's Journey into Mystery #116 (1965), Spider-Slayer has spent nearly six decades as one of Marvel's most persistent thorns in the side of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. This relentless figure shares the page with some of the most iconic names in comics β Peter Parker, J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane Watson, and Flash Thompson β placing them right at the heart of the Spider-Man mythos across The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Girl, and even Deadpool. With three key collector issues to their name and appearances stretching all the way to 2024, Spider-Slayer is a character whose staying power speaks for itself. If you're serious about the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel universe, this is exactly the kind of deep-cut Silver Age figure worth tracking down.
