Reginald Hudlin
Reginald Alan Hudlin was born on December 15, 1961. He is best known to comic readers as the writer who, alongside artist John Romita Jr., revitalized *Black Panther* in the mid-2000s, bringing T’Challa into the modern Marvel Universe with a politically charged, action-driven run. Hudlin’s path to comics came after a successful film career; his breakout was the 1990 comedy *House Party*, followed by directing *Boomerang* and co-producing the Oscar-nominated *Django Unchained*. He served as President of Entertainment for BET from 2005 to 2008. In comics, his most credited work is on *Black Panther*, but he also wrote *Marvel Knights Spider-Man*, the *Django Unchained* adaptation, and the Milestone revival *Icon & Rocket: Season One*. He co-created the character of Queen Divine Justice and the Dora Milaje with Romita. His later work includes *Icon vs. Hardware* and *Captain America / Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers*, often collaborating with artists like Romita, Denys Cowan, and Ken Lashley. Hudlin’s legacy bridges film and comics, bringing a cinematic sensibility to superhero storytelling. He has not received major comic industry awards but remains a significant figure for his contributions to Black representation in the medium.
