Born in 1950, he entered the comics field in the early 2000s, quickly gaining notice for his polished, painterly covers. He earned a 2004 Eisner Award nomination for Best Cover Artist for his work on Marvel’s *NYX*, *X-Men Unlimited*, and *New Mutants*, a testament to his ability to blend moody atmosphere with clean, expressive figure work. Over a career active from 2000 to 2024, he has contributed to 35 issues as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer. His most credited titles include the fantasy series *Meridian*, the teen-mutant drama *NYX*, the team-up *Superman/Shazam: First Thunder*, the anthology *DC Superheroes*, the *Aquaman Rebirth* run, and *Marvel Tales Flip Magazine*. Middleton’s style is characterized by a strong sense of design and a luminous, often cinematic use of color, making his covers stand out on the shelf. He has collaborated with writers such as Judd Winick and Geoff Johns. While he has not been a household name, his cover work has influenced a generation of artists, and his legacy remains strong among collectors and fans of early 2000s superhero art.
