Joe R. Lansdale
Joe R. Lansdale was born on October 28, 1951, in Gladewater, Texas. He is best known in comics for his gritty, offbeat Westerns and horror-infused storytelling, most notably his work on *Jonah Hex*—particularly the miniseries *Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo* and *Jonah Hex: Riders of the Worm and Such*—which helped revive the character with a supernatural edge. He also wrote *The Steam Man*, the *By Bizarre Hands* series, and contributed to anthologies like *Blood and Shadows* and *Flinch*. His path into comics came after establishing himself as a prolific prose writer across genres—horror, mystery, Western, and suspense—and his scripts often carry the same darkly comic, Southern Gothic flavor as his novels. Key collaborators include artist Tim Truman, with whom he frequently partnered on those *Jonah Hex* projects. Lansdale’s novels have been adapted into films and television, and his many honors include the British Fantasy Award, the American Horror Award, the Edgar Award, and eleven Bram Stoker Awards. He also teaches martial arts and remains active in comics, with credits spanning from 1993 into the 2020s. His legacy is that of a versatile, uncompromising voice who brought literary grit and pulp energy to every page.
