Jonah Hex: Riders of the Worm and Such #1

This 1995 DC/Vertigo miniseries kicks off with a cover by Timothy Truman that sets a wonderfully unsettling Western mood — a long-haired, scarred gunfighter dominates the foreground, both revolvers drawn and ready, while a looming, monstrous creature glows ominously in the fiery background and a cloaked rider on a pale horse gallops through the lower frame. The combination of frontier grit and something far stranger lurking at the edges promises exactly the kind of darkly imaginative storytelling you'd expect from writer Joe R. Lansdale. With artist Tim Truman and inker Sam Glanzman rounding out the creative team, this opening chapter looks like a hell of a ride into weird Western territory.
