Tempestade
Tempestade is the Brazilian Portuguese localization of Storm (Ororo Munroe), the weather-manipulating mutant X-Man. Orphaned young and raised in Cairo and Kenya, Ororo discovered her ability to control wind, rain, and lightning, and was worshipped as a rain goddess before joining the X-Men.
Tempestade made their Brazilian comics debut in 1983's O Incrível Hulk #4, published by Editora Abril, arriving in the Bronze Age and going on to grace the pages of beloved Portuguese-language series like Superaventuras Marvel and the Marvel Série collections for nearly four decades. With 58 catalog appearances spanning all the way to 2021, this is a character with real staying power in the Brazilian Marvel publishing tradition. Tempestade keeps remarkable company throughout those adventures — sharing pages with the likes of Kurt Wagner, Scott Summers, Charles Xavier, Noturno, and Homem-Aranha — a roster that speaks to the rich, action-packed world these Editora Abril editions brought to generations of Brazilian readers. With at least one key collector's issue to their name, Tempestade is a rewarding find for anyone diving into the vibrant history of Marvel comics in Brazil.
