Jose Delgado
A Metropolis high school teacher and former boxer, José Delgado became the street-level vigilante Gangbuster to protect his community from gang violence. After being crippled in action, he reluctantly accepted Lex Luthor's cybernetic treatment to restore his mobility — a bargain that gave Luthor hidden control over his movements.
Born in the pages of Adventures of Superman #428 in 1987, Jose Delgado is a Copper Age creation of the legendary team of Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway — two names that defined DC's storytelling ambitions in that era. Over nearly four decades of publication, he's carved out a durable place in the Superman corner of the DC Universe, appearing across the flagship titles Adventures of Superman, Action Comics, and Superman, sharing the page with heavyweights like Lois Lane, Perry White, and even Batman himself. With two key collector issues to his name and a publishing history stretching all the way to 2026, Jose Delgado is the kind of character who quietly earns his place — a street-level presence woven into the fabric of Metropolis worth any serious Superman reader's attention.
