Black Lightning
DC · 1995–1996 · 13 issues
About the series
During the mid-1990s, DC Comics gave Black Lightning his first solo series in nearly two decades, a 13-issue run anchored by co-creator Tony Isabella and artist Eddy Newell. This title re-established Jefferson Pierce as a hero fighting urban decay and corruption in Metropolis’s Suicide Slum, often alongside ally Gangbuster. The series matters for deepening the character’s legacy as one of mainstream comics’ first major Black superheroes, blending street-level action with social commentary.
