Abin Sur was a scholar and history professor from the planet Ungara whose extraordinary strength of will earned him induction into the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping organization. Armed with a power ring, he served as the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814 until fate set the stage for his successor.

Few characters have left such a long shadow from such a brief moment on the page — Abin Sur burst onto the Silver Age scene in Showcase #22 in 1959, courtesy of the legendary creative duo John Broome and Gil Kane, and that debut alone is one of comics history's most consequential first appearances.
