Konga
Charlton · 1960–1965 · 23 issues
About the series
In the early 1960s, Charlton Comics unleashed Konga, a monster-movie-inspired series that ran for 23 issues, following the rampages of a giant ape and the scientists who sought to control him. Anchored by the prolific scripting of Joe Gill, the title is most visually defined by the atmospheric pencils of a young Steve Ditko, alongside artists Bill Montes and Charles Nicholas. A creature-feature staple of the pre-Marvel monster boom, Konga captures the atomic-age anxiety and pulp energy that defined Charlton's distinctive, low-budget corner of the Silver Age.
