X-Men: Forever #2
X-Men: Forever #2 (titled 'Quiet Council') is a structurally distinctive chapter of the Krakoan Age endgame: it functions as a deliberate mirror image of Rise of the Powers of X #4, with each issue presenting the same pivotal events from a different vantage point — one on Earth, one from within the White Hot Room. Within its pages, the 'Quiet Council in Exile' (Destiny, Exodus, Hope Summers, and a newly resurrected Mister Sinister) arrive at the decision to use the Five's resurrection protocols to begin sending stranded mutants back to Earth, a plot turn that directly resolves hanging threads from Immortal X-Men and sets the stage for the close of the entire Krakoan era. The issue also dramatizes Professor Xavier's deliberate killing of Rachel Summers and Rasputin IV as a calculated sacrifice to resurrect them in the White Hot Room — a revelation that reframes Xavier's arc across the whole era and underscores the series' central theme of leadership through morally catastrophic choices.

The series was announced by Marvel Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski at Italy's Lucca Comics & Games Festival in November 2023 and positioned explicitly as Kieron Gillen's coda to his own Immortal X-Men run, which had concluded with issue #18 in December 2023. Because Marvel condensed its Krakoan finale into five issues of Rise of the Powers of X, X-Men: Forever was created in part to accommodate narrative material that did not fit within that main event series — functioning as a companion and expansion rather than a simple tie-in. Gillen described the project as 'a requiem for the Krakoan age,' and the collected edition was subsequently retitled Immortal X-Men Vol. 5: X-Men Forever, confirming its status as the direct continuation and conclusion of that prior run rather than a standalone work.
