X-Men: Forever #3
X-Men: Forever #3 (May 2024) is the penultimate chapter of Kieron Gillen's four-issue coda to his own Immortal X-Men run, serving as an integral thread in the sprawling 'Fall of the House of X' crossover event that closed out the entire five-year Krakoan Age of X-Men storytelling. The issue is particularly notable for the revelation that Legion — David Haller — is not merely an object but is actually inhabiting the 'Hopesword,' transforming it into a weapon suited to Hope Summers; this reframes story beats seeded across multiple interconnected series. It also delivers the cliffhanger that Enigma, the digital god antagonist, has chosen to strike at Hope from outside the White Hot Room by approaching her biological mother Louise Spalding nine months before Hope's birth — the first time Enigma appears in a corporeal, physical form with his crown insignia visible. As a stealth epilogue to the Uncanny Spider-Man miniseries, the issue also ties up the Nightcrawler/Mystique/Destiny family arc that had threaded through Si Spurrier's concurrent work.

The series was announced by Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski at the Lucca Comics & Games festival in Italy in late 2023, with Gillen describing it publicly as 'a coda to Immortal X-Men, a requiem for the Krakoan age.' Gillen reunited with Immortal X-Men cover artist Mark Brooks for the covers while bringing in Luca Maresca — fresh from Children of the Vault — as the interior penciler and inker, with Federico Blee on colors and Clayton Cowles lettering. The series ran as a four-issue limited series beginning March 20, 2024, simultaneously interlocking page-by-page with Rise of the Powers of X and Fall of the House of X; the collected edition was later retitled Immortal X-Men Vol. 5: X-Men Forever, formally positioning the miniseries as the conclusion of Gillen's prior ongoing.
