John, Thuvia and Tars escape from the Temple of Thern only to be attacked by the Black Pirates of Thuria. John forces Thuvia and Tars to escape while he battles the pirates. Boarding one of their ships, he rescues a maiden named Phaidor from Dator Xodar but refuses to kill his foe. John takes too long interrogating his captive and Dator's fellow pirates show up in a giant ship.
