About this Collection

This fourth volume of Dark Horse's Usagi Yojimbo Saga series collects issues from the long-running samurai epic, following Miyamoto Usagi as he continues his warrior's journey through feudal Japan. The stories feature key characters like the cunning Kitsune, the loyal Tomoe Ame, and the mysterious Sasuké, with a particular focus on Usagi's relationship with his son Jotaro and his training under the master swordsman Katsuichi. The volume also delves into the ongoing conflict with the nefarious Lord Chizu and her ninja clan, weaving together action, honor, and historical drama.

In "Vendetta," Usagi Yojimbo faces his most daunting trial yet, challenging the legendary Tengu of the Northern Mountain—mythical swordsmen said to have passed their skill to Japan's greatest hero, Yoshitsune. Determined to prove himself, the young and brash Usagi soon finds his training no match for their prowess, forcing him to seek help from his mentor, Katsuichi. Written and illustrated by Stan Sakai, this gripping chapter of The Usagi Yojimbo Saga showcases the series' signature blend of action, honor, and quiet introspection, with cover art by Stan Sakai.

Usagi's faced down more than his share of adversaries throughout his life, but none so fiercely skilled as the Tengu - legendary mountain goblins reputed to be master swordsmen - so skilled, in fact, that it's believed they imparted a small bit of their abilities to Yoshitsune, Japan's greatest hero. Determined to test his skills against the great Tengu of the Northern Mountain, a young and brash Usagi sets out to prove himself and quickly learns that his samurai's abilities are not up to the challenge. With his back against the wall, Usagi turns to his teacher and friend Katsuichi for help.
