“The Cape of Dark Dreams”

In "The Cape of Dark Dreams," Conan joins Captain Kuchum’s Khitan crew in a perilous voyage guided by the skull of Thulsa Doom, leading them to a fabled island said to hold great treasure. As they battle Black Corsairs and a monstrous shark, the promise of riches gives way to dread when the island’s priest, Phan-Ku, reveals a dark allegiance to Set. With John Buscema’s dynamic art and Ernie Chan’s bold inks bringing the tale to life, this 1991 issue delivers a gripping blend of myth, menace, and ancient sorcery. The cover by Bob Larkin captures the story’s ominous tone with striking detail.

Conan sails with Khitans under Captain Kuchum. Thulsa Doom's skull has convinced Kuchum that he can lead them to vast treasure. They encounter Black Corsairs and a giant shark on the voyage, but eventually reach the island promised by Doom. The landing party is greeted by Phan-Ku, who claims to be the grandson of a ship-wrecked Khitan, but is actually a priest of Set serving Doom. He attempts to sacrifice Li-Zya, but Conan saves her and kills the priest. Revealed as serpent-men, the hosts overcome Conan and the Khitans through overwhelming numbers.
