History

By early 1988, editor Bob Harras had handed Peter David — then largely a member of Marvel's sales staff — near-complete creative latitude on a title whose readership had collapsed under the weight of prior editorial mandates. Todd McFarlane, who had been penciling the book since issue #330 and self-inking from #340 onward, was simultaneously developing the kinetic, web-heavy style that would shortly make him a superstar on Amazing Spider-Man. Issue #343, titled 'Beyond Redemption,' was produced with McFarlane handling both pencils and inks, colored by Petra Scotese and lettered by Rick Parker, under the editorial oversight of Bob Harras and assistant editor Bobbie Chase, with Tom DeFalco as editor-in-chief.
