Hulk returns from the Secret Wars with a busted leg and a savage temperament. He heads off to save his lady love, Kate, from Boomerang. Once the assassin has been dispatched, Hulk and Kate return to Bruce's lab where they discover that former mob boss Max Hammer has been using Bruce's untested gamma cure to heal the sick. Things go wrong, however, as Hammer turns into a gamma monster before their very eyes.
