“Squeeze Play!”

Squeeze Play!" promises some serious trouble for the Nuclear Man, and this November 1983 cover by Pat Broderick and Dick Giordano delivers the tension in style — three versions of Firestorm in his red-and-gold costume are trapped within massive mechanical restraints, while a looming robotic figure with an unsettling grin and enormous mechanical hands dominates the background, closing in from above. The tagline "Have We Got a Summer for You!" adds a playful edge to what looks like a genuinely dire predicament. Gerry Conway, George Tuska, and Rodin Rodriguez round out a creative team that kept Firestorm one of DC's most energetic series of the era.
