Few team-ups carry quite this much raw kinetic energy: the cover by Jim Aparo places Batman and Wildcat trading thunderous blows inside a boxing ring while a gleeful Joker lurks at the ropes, his crossed-out "Win" replaced with "Die!" making the stakes grimly clear. It's a wonderfully tense three-way dynamic, with two heroes apparently at odds while Gotham's most dangerous clown watches the chaos he's helped engineer. Writer Bob Haney and artist Jim Aparo were one of DC's most reliable pairings in 1975, and this April issue showcases exactly why The Brave and the Bold was such a reliable home for hard-hitting adventure.
