The Amazing Spider-Man #666
The "Spider-Island" event kicks off in earnest with this unsettling prelude, its cover by Mirco Pierfederici delivering one of 2011's most striking images: the Statue of Liberty rendered with Spider-Man's mask as her face, her robes draped in gossamer webbing while a darkened New York cityscape looms behind her. It's a wonderfully eerie reimagining of an American landmark that says everything about how thoroughly spider-powers have overtaken the city. Dan Slott, Stefano Caselli, and Marte Gracia set the stage for what promises to be a sprawling, web-tangled saga.
