The issue arrived deep inside Marvel's ambitious Brand New Day publishing experiment, in which Amazing Spider-Man shifted to a thrice-monthly schedule helmed by a rotating writers' room — the Brain Trust — under editor Steve Wacker, who was recruited specifically because of his experience shepherding DC's weekly 52. Joe Kelly, already known to readers from his Deadpool and Uncanny X-Men runs, was one of the Brain Trust's rotating contributors, and #575 opened his 'Family Ties' two-parter with Chris Bachalo on pencils and Tim Townsend on inks. The Brain Trust model meant each creative team typically handed off after a short arc, giving Kelly and Bachalo a focused but bounded canvas for the story.
