The issue was produced during Erik Larsen's celebrated early-1990s run on the title alongside writer David Michelinie, a collaboration later recognized in the 2024 hardcover David Michelinie & Erik Larsen Omnibus collecting Amazing Spider-Man #329–350 and related issues. Larsen handled both interior pencils and the cover, with Randy Emberlin on inks, Bob Sharen on colors, and Rick Parker on letters; Jim Salicrup edited under Editor-in-Chief Tom DeFalco. The 'Powerless' arc grew directly out of earlier storyline decisions in which Peter voluntarily surrendered his powers, giving Michelinie and Larsen a compact three-issue window to test how far Spider-Man's resourcefulness and supporting cast — particularly Black Cat — could carry the hero when his physical gifts were gone.
