“Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?”

In "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?", Alan Moore crafts a poignant farewell as Lois Lane Elliot reflects on Superman’s final days, ten years after his disappearance. With Curt Swan’s iconic art and George Pérez’s dynamic inks, the story unfolds through Lois’s memories—Bizarro’s sudden shift to violence, the Toyman and Prankster exposing Superman’s identity, and the Metallos’ assault on the Daily Planet. As Superman retreats to the Fortress of Solitude with his closest allies, a visit from the Legion of Super-Heroes and Supergirl brings a touching tribute, while Brainiac’s influence begins to take hold. The cover by Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson captures the emotional weight of this defining moment.

Tim Crane interviews Lois Lane Elliot about Superman’s final days on the 10th anniversary of his disappearance. Lois relates how Bizarro suddenly became murderous, then the Toyman and the Prankster attacked revealing Superman’s secret identity, and finally a group of Metallos attacked the Daily Planet. In response, Superman took his closest friends to the Fortress of Solitude for protection. As Brainiac took over Luthor's body and recruited the Kryptonite Man, the Legion of Super-Heroes accompanied by Supergirl visited Superman and presented him with a statuette.
