“For the Man Who Has Everything...”

In "For the Man Who Has Everything...", Alan Moore crafts a haunting, character-driven moment as Lois Lane recounts a pivotal crisis in Superman’s past—when the Man of Steel, besieged by a terrifying alliance of foes including Brainiac, the Kryptonite Man, and the Legion of Super-Villains, confronts a truth that forces him to summon Mr. Mxyzptlk. With Curt Swan’s legendary art and inks by Kurt Schaffenberger and Murphy Anderson, the emotional weight of Superman’s choice—leading to a devastating consequence—lives in every panel, underscored by Gene D’Angelo’s subtle colors and Todd Klein’s precise lettering. Frazer Irving’s striking cover captures the moment’s quiet aftermath, as Lois, her husband Jordy, and their son Jonathan find stillness after the storm.

Lois continues to relate how when Superman was holed up in the Fortress with his closest friends, being attacked by Brainiac (having taken over Luthor's body), the Kryptonite Man, and the Legion of Super-Villains, he realized who the mastermind behind it all was, and called on Mr. Mxyzptlk to show himself. Just as Superman sent Mxyzptlk into the Phantom Zone, Mxy fled to his own dimension, tearing himself apart. Having taken a life, Superman exposed himself to gold kryptonite and retired. The interview over, Lois, her husband Jordy, and their infant son Jonathan settle in for a quiet evening.
