In "Les tentes du peuple Shanki," Conan travels to Zamboula with Isparana to deliver the Eye of Erlik, only to be set upon by the Yogites and rescued by the enigmatic Shanki. In the city-state of Berthalia, a desperate king offers a reward to anyone who can rescue his queen from the mountain sorcerer. Conan takes up the challenge, only to uncover a truth far stranger than magic: the so-called villain is none other than Gywnella’s lover, Symon. With the secret revealed, Conan turns back, leaving the king with a quiet warning about the dangers of the past.
