In the Brythunian city-state of Berthalia, a king offers a reward to anyone who can rescue his Queen from the wizard of the mountain. Conan takes up the quest and discovers that the "wizard" is Gywnella's lover, Symon. Conan abandons the quest and tells the King of Berthalia that he barely escaped the "wizard" with his life.
