Spider-Woman #5
From 1978, this fifth chapter of Spider-Woman's solo series carries the perfectly ominous tagline "To Know Her Is To Fear Her," and Dave Cockrum and Ernie Chan's cover delivers on that promise in style. Spider-Woman swoops across a massive web backdrop, red-and-yellow costume trailing behind her flowing dark hair, while a terrified man in a green suit recoils beneath her — the cover copy teasing that it's not her he should fear, but his own darkest nightmares. With Marv Wolfman scripting and Carmine Infantino on interior art, this is peak Bronze Age Marvel atmosphere, moody and kinetic in equal measure.
