A strange black disc appears in the sky and stabs a beam directly through the sun. Rom investigates and finds it has been created by Dire Wraith sorcerers. Rom drives off the Wraiths but the damage has already been done as a large black spot is slowly spreading across the sun. Rom learns from Cindy, a little girl whose mind has been touched by a dying Wraith, that the aliens are using the black beam as a conduit with which they are attracting their own world to merge with Earth. Gyrich claims that the only man capable of duplicating Rom's neutralizer and halting Wraith-World refuses to help.
