About this Collection

This third volume of Punisher War Journal collects issues #12-17 of the 2008 series, pitting Frank Castle against a rogues' gallery of Spider-Man villains including the Vulture, Rhino, and Kraven the Hunter. The story arc finds the Punisher hunted by both super-criminals and the law, as his one-man war on crime draws the attention of the Avengers and forces him into an uneasy alliance with Spider-Man. Writer Matt Fraction and artist Ariel Olivetti deliver a high-octane tale that explores the brutal consequences of Castle's methods when the Marvel Universe's most dangerous predators turn the tables on him.

In "World War Frank," the Punisher goes after Kraven on a massive, sinking vessel rigged with a deadly zoo of animal-themed villains, each trapped in cages fitted with explosive collars. With the ship going under and the cages open, the Punisher finds himself chained and outnumbered, forced to survive the chaos as the animal enforcers run wild. Written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Scott Wegener, with colors by Shannon Blanchard and letters by Joe Caramagna, the cover by Ariel Olivetti captures the grim intensity of the hunt.

The Punisher tracks Kraven to a giant ship where he has assembled a veritable menagerie of animal based villains. And by gathered, I mean he has put them in cages with exploding collars around their necks. The Punisher invades the ship but is shot by Kraven and awakens to find that he is chained up, the ship is sinking and the animals are loose.
