Gibbon
Martin Blank was born with a mutation giving him an ape-like physique and natural agility, allowing him to swing and climb with primate grace. Rejected by society, he initially sought Spider-Man's friendship before being manipulated into villainy by Kraven the Hunter.
Swinging into the Bronze Age courtesy of Stan Lee and John Romita, Gibbon made his Marvel debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #110 back in 1972 — and has been a scrappy, enduring corner of Spider-Man's world ever since, with appearances stretching all the way to 2026. He's the kind of character who keeps genuinely interesting company, sharing pages with Spider-Man, Peter Parker, and even heavy-hitters like Kraven the Hunter, and his most notable appearances span titles like Superior Spider-Man and The Spectacular Spider-Man. More than fifty years in the Marvel universe is no small feat for anyone, and Gibbon's longevity is a testament to the staying power of those classic Bronze Age street-level stories that gave the Spider-Man corner of Marvel so much of its distinctive flavor.
