"Prologue" kicks off a high-stakes journey in Planet of the Apes #17 (1975), a 0.08 GBP comic from Marvel UK, where Brutus gains rare access to the Forbidden Zone while Jason and Alexander face execution at the hands of the Mutants' Gestalt Commander Be-One. With the help of the captured gorilla Warko, the trio fights through deadly, mutated beasts in a brutal arena before escaping with the mysterious Lawgiver in tow—only to flee in a sky car. Written by Doug Moench and Gerry Conway, with dynamic art by Mike Ploog and inks by Frank Chiaramonte, the cover by Ron Wilson and Frank Giacoia captures the tension of the moment.
