NYX #6
NYX (vol. 2) #6 marks the return of Kiden Nixon — the original protagonist of the 2003 NYX series — after roughly fourteen years of near-total absence from Marvel Comics continuity, making it her most significant reappearance since a brief cameo in X-23 (vol. 2) #1 (2010). Her comeback closes a meaningful narrative circle: it was Kiden who rescued Laura Kinney from the streets of New York in the original series, and their reunion here in a second volume built around that same city carries genuine emotional and historical resonance. The issue also pivots the series structurally, shifting NYX's rotating point-of-view format into its second half and directly launching the Mojo-centric arc that would define the book's final chapters. NYX (vol. 2) was announced at South by Southwest in March 2024 by Marvel's Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort as part of the X-Men: From the Ashes publishing initiative, which relaunched the entire X-Men line following the end of the Krakoan Age. Written by the co-writing team of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with series artist Francesco Mortarino, the book was conceived as a deliberate counterpart to that era — one of the few From the Ashes titles, per Lanzing, 'designed in some ways to answer that era rather than push past it directly.' Issue #6 specifically brought aboard fill-in penciler and inker Michael Shelfer (with additional inks from Elisabetta D'Amico), who handled art duties for this single chapter; colorist Raúl Angulo and letterer Joe Sabino remained consistent with earlier issues. The creative team reportedly knew in advance that NYX would be cancelled at issue #10, and the Kiden Nixon subplot introduced here was part of a planned, if compressed, finale arc.
