NYX #7

History

The series was announced by Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and VP/Executive Editor Tom Brevoort at the X-Men: From the Ashes panel at South by Southwest on March 14, 2024, as one of the flagship titles of that line-wide relaunch following the end of the Krakoan Age. Writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing — longtime collaborators with credits including Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty — designed the series around a rotating single-POV structure, with each issue titled by its focal character's human name rather than their mutant codename, a deliberate editorial statement about the post-Krakoa world these characters now inhabit. Series regular Francesco Mortarino stepped aside for issue #7, with guest artist Enid Balám handling interiors; Raúl Angulo remained as colorist and Sara Pichelli continued as cover artist throughout the run. The NYX community center, which anchors this issue, had made a quieter debut in Astonishing X-Men on Marvel Unlimited before receiving its grander, print-page introduction here.

• The issue marks Synch and Prodigy's longest direct interaction in Marvel Comics history to that point, a notable gap given both characters' prominence during the Fall of X and both being among the most significant Black male figures in the X-franchise.
• Secondary subplot: Kamala Khan discovers that her cousin Bilal has adopted the identity of 'the Truthseeker,' an anti-mutant vigilante, deepening her personal stakes in the series' central conflict between family loyalty and mutant community.
• NYX #7 is collected in the trade paperback NYX Vol. 2: Mojo City (collecting issues #6–10), published in 2025 by Marvel Comics, which covers the second and final arc of the series before its cancellation with issue #10.
