NYX #3
NYX (2024) #3 is the Anole-spotlight chapter of the second volume of NYX, a series that arrived as part of Marvel's 2024 'X-Men: From the Ashes' publishing initiative — the broadest X-Men line relaunch in years following the close of the Krakoan Age. The issue carries special meta-resonance because it is timed to the twentieth anniversary of the original NYX #3 (Feb. 2004), the issue that introduced X-23/Laura Kinney to comics; Marvel even commissioned a W. Scott Forbes variant specifically to honour that anniversary, visually echoing Joshua Middleton's aesthetic from the 2003–2005 original run. Within the series' rotating point-of-view structure, this issue deepens the post-Krakoa world by reintroducing the Morlocks as a functioning underground community in New York and confronting, through Anole's very visible mutation, the tension between mutant visibility, queer identity, and separatism that the original NYX never had the space to explore.

The series was announced by Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and VP/Executive Editor Tom Brevoort at SXSW on March 14, 2024, as a flagship title of the 'X-Men: From the Ashes' initiative. Writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing — self-described fans of the Academy X era — and artist Francesco Mortarino were revealed in April 2024; Mortarino cited a love of the original Joe Quesada/Joshua Middleton run as part of his enthusiasm for the project. Editor Annalise Bissa shepherded the issue, which carried an FOC date of August 26, 2024, and went on sale September 25, 2024. The series was structured from the outset with each issue titled by a character's human name rather than their mutant codename, a deliberate creative choice by Kelly and Lanzing to foreground the characters' civilian identities in the post-Krakoa world.
