History

The series was announced on March 14, 2024, by Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and VP/Executive Editor Tom Brevoort at South by Southwest (SXSW) as part of the X-Men: From the Ashes publishing initiative. Writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing — who work collaboratively under the 'Hivemind' moniker — were drawn to the title partly out of affection for books like the original NYX, Runaways, and Young Avengers, and they described inheriting Kamala Khan from the Ms. Marvel: New Mutant creative team of Iman Vellani and Sabir Pirzada as both an honor and a challenge. Artist Francesco Mortarino, who had previously worked on Avengers, brought an explicit intent to evoke the street-energy of Daredevil and Spider-Man titles in his rendering of New York City, and the main cover was supplied by Sara Pichelli. Editor Annalise Bissa shepherded the project, with the book's rotating POV structure — each of the first five issues following a different lead character — conceived from the start as the series' organizing principle.
