Martian Manhunter #8
Spinning out of the pages of JLA, John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake's Martian Manhunter reaches its eighth issue with a cover that's hard to shake — a grinning skull looms over the massive JLA logo while two glowing-eyed, flame-wreathed demonic figures claw in from either side, suggesting whatever J'onn J'onzz is facing touches the Justice League itself. Mandrake's linework gives the whole image a raw, unsettling energy that fits perfectly with a story titled "Abandon All Hope." A strong entry in this 1999 solo series for one of DC's most compelling heroes.
