“My Brother's Keeper”

From the pages of JLA, John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake's solo Martian Manhunter series delivers a genuinely unsettling image with issue #7: J'onn J'onzz, wreathed in swirling orange fire, appears trapped and straining within what looks like a massive, coiling alien entity set against the cold void of space. The single word "CONSUMED!" at the bottom says it all — the Last Son of Mars is in serious trouble. Mandrake's cover art makes great use of scale and menace, dwarfing J'onn inside this dark, writhing form to convey a real sense of dread.
