MAD's April 2022 issue delivers exactly the kind of absurdist energy the magazine has always thrived on, with cover artist Terry Wolfinger painting Alfred E. Neuman — sporting a Shazam lightning bolt on his red shirt — cheerfully jamming a fork into a toaster while electricity crackles wildly around him. Looming behind him stands a muscular, Black Adam–suited figure, arms crossed and unamused, as toast flies and lightning fills the kitchen. It's a perfectly MAD premise: chaos, a grinning kid, and a superhero who clearly did not sign up for this.
